I love the Opus 88 filling mechanism and the way it allows me to “finesse” the flow. My first pen had the EF Flex. I had to change it as it was cutting into the paper. Not a beginners nib in the EF. Better to go up to the Fine.

Available in any colour as long as it’s black! I wonder if that is why people keep the stickers on? Does nib size matter in the quality of the written result? Is nib size more or less relevant depending on the grind i.e. FA, PO, WA?

I have the 743 with a Soft Fine nib. It is an exceptional pen and a very good alternative to the 823. The CON-70 converter is easy to use and relatively easy to clean with a blunt syringe. I love the nib which provides a sufficient line variation for me in my noemal writing. Excellent review.

So, how much for basic pen, how much for gold nib?

I don't like the design. You'd be better served sticking a 14k nib on the Scala.

At that price point I was expecting a cap.

I view the base one as if you can't afford a luxury item but want the best writing experience we can offer, this is the compromise, but if you can spend more the others really are much more beautiful. To me, there are then many many urushi pens that I think look lovely, but most lack that "it" factor that makes me buy them below the $4000 mark, but when I saw that first year of the Iro-Miyabi they blew me away, in every color. The texture caught my attention at first, but the colors are somehow perfect. There is just something so pleasing about each of the colors.

I mean, this looks cool and all but it's a normal pen with a converter...

I don’t know why but mine doesn’t move at all when I try to unscrew it.

Just got mine today, very cheaply made pen. Torque fill is a gimmick. But worst of all is the nib. Complete garbage. Save your $70 and purchase a reputable pen instead. Nib has no tine gap, feed is not even close to being centered. Writes like a nail on a chalkboard. Junk!!😢

Thanks, I never understood how the feed actually worked at this level of detail before.

You make a good point about writing slower. It also helps to bring out the best in your ink, allowing less saturated inks to shade. It also helps the feed to keep up and prevents railroading.

I’m going to be terminally uncool and say that this looks like a lovely ladies pen. The converter looks to have a reasonable capacity for the size of the pen. Can you tell me if the stub nib has any tipping material on it,or is it ground/polished a bit? I find many stubs too sharp.

How easy is it to spin that top and have ink leak out?

Visually it´s an absolute eye-catcher.

It sort of looks like more of a gimmick than am innovation. I do like the Schmidt nib. Of the few pens I have that use their nibs, all have performed well, possibly better than Bock.

Lovely. I have been looking for a suitable vehicle for my Opus88 Omar’s. The place I got it from have nothing large enough. Daft eh.

A nice pen but I'd rather see Leonardo's nibs with more sharp edges, like in Pilot or other classical pens. Installing standard nib in such a unique pen 🖋️ imo is not too fortunate.

Thank you for the review. I had not heard of Leonardo had started to release pens under the Radius name. It looks like a nice everyday writer. I wonder if this pen has the same options for nib selections. I like the Elastic nib from Leonardo.

What a pity that Leonardo brought over to this pen the one design element I don't like about Leonardo pens - that conical pointy end to their pens :) The blueish swirly version of this pen is sooo gorgeous.

I supposed you'd get the same writing experience by attaching a Lamy gold nib to a Lamy Aion. That's my favorite fountain pen combination.
